On Venus we meet Joy Williams for the third time. In 2001 she made her debut as a relipop singer, then half of the country duo The Civil Wars and on this CD she shows another side of herself. Where her former band excelled at evoking a retro sound with acoustic instruments, this disc sounds almost chilly. The electronics make you long for a warm blanket.
