Dreamland is the second album by Wild Belle, a group from Chicago based around brother and sister Bergman. Multi-instrumentalist Elliot is more in the background, while sister Natalie Bergman is the showpiece of Wild Belle. Not only does she stand pontifically on the cover, her girlish voice also leads the mix. Musically the group opts for the golden middle ground. The song is central. Opening track
… Mississippi River sounds like a hit. The chorus (with infectious whoo-hoo-hoo chorus) immediately gets stuck in your head while Elliot Bergman's baritone sax gives the song a crazy edge. Losing You combines a skipping R&B rhythm with a rock guitar, while the title track is a strong power ballad. The subsequent songs are less distinguished. Natalie's whirring voice does start to irritate more as the CD progresses. So come on sister, move on for your brother, because with him at the helm, Wild Belle will win your own face. (PdK)more
