Metallica's first two albums sent a serious earthquake through the metal underground. Fans of and were flapping their ears: here was a young group that played even faster and harder than all their illustrious predecessors. Also surprising: the group came from America. Until then, the best hard rock bands mainly came from England. A young Danish drummer had brought all of his obscure British hard
… rock cassettes with him when he moved to California with his parents. The great thing about Metallica was that they managed to link aggression and excitement to melody. The debut from 1983 already had a few songs that became classic songs in the Metallica catalog such as Whiplash and Seek & Destroy. Successor Ride The Lightning (1984) was stronger across the board. Most notable song from that album was Fade To Black on which the group slowed down and gave a taste of the Metallica sound of later years. (PdK)more
