We already knew that Warpaint can write a catchy song. On debut EP (2010) it was Elephants, on the first full-fledged CD was Undertow… The ladies from Los Angeles didn't sound as accessible as in New Song, however. earlier. With a little imagination, you can imagine this handsome piece of electropop would sing. The title track is almost as catchy, but also somewhat duller songs like The Stall
… and Above Control stick after a few spins. It makes Heads Up much more enjoyable than the very hazy predecessor from 2014, but also a bit frustrating. Because what if the foursome were to step out of their own shadow and make a whole pop album? In that case, the undersigned would not have to repeat his sigh (see the review of solo album bassist Jennylee): 'a pity about those few indeterminate rambling tunes that a Warpaint-related record apparently cannot do without'.
