The former bassist of the Swedish prog band continues his solo career with the impressive The Rain. In 2006 multi-instrumentalist Kristoffer Gildenlöw left the aforementioned band to live in the Netherlands. He was active as a session musician (with and among others ) and was successful with the Dutch prog band . In 2012 he made his debut under his own name with , a worn progfolk album on which
… he reflects on aging. A theme that continues to haunt him; sequel The Rain describes the suffering of a demented man, up to and including redeeming death. Gildenlöw brings this to life with heavy music and emotional baritone singing. Baroque choirs and strings complete a record that mainly focuses on the listener's underbelly. His dark, classic prog folk sometimes reminds us of the more pastoral side of Opeth. But the drama that Gildenlöw evokes in music and text is authentic and genuine. (MR)more
