With a title like this you don't expect music for cheerful people. There is little cheerfulness on this sixth album by Norwegian Susanne Aartun Sundfør. The Norwegian artist displays a chilly collection of music here. Unlike her previous album, the electronic instruments have been completely omitted here. Music For People In Trouble, on the other hand, has country and folk influences with mainly
… guitar, piano and wind arrangements. The songs are very minimalistic. It gives Sundfør's beautiful voice full scope to shine, but somehow boredom is lurking. Somehow the emotional charge keeps bubbling somewhere beneath the surface. As a result, the tension is there, but never comes to a discharge. The fragility of Sundfør's approach actually breaks things up. (JvQ)more
