Absynthe Minded is on his sixth album with Jungle Eyes. The band, from Ghent, became known for its mix of jazz, soul and rock. In home country Belgium the band quickly became popular because of this, but with (2009) that popularity also extended to the Netherlands, among others. On Jungle Eyes, the collective - of which three original members are left - has not adjusted its formula. In that sense
… you don't have to expect exciting changes or creative revolutions. What you do get are beautiful and tightly executed songs, with a slightly melancholic tone. The guitar playing is very nice and the songs sound velvety soft. At Jungle Eyes, the Belgian band makes the most of its own sound. It still doesn't get boring after six albums. Absynthe Minded is quite straightforward here and can count itself as one of the best groups in Belgium. (JvQ)more
