The Wombats show on their fourth album how to make danceable guitar music in 2018. The three from Liverpool arrived relatively late at the party of the indie bands in 2007, but with Let's Dance To Joy Division they immediately brought a classic with them. The song turned out to be vintage Wombats; melodic, slightly nervous, tongue-in-cheek text and Matthew Murphy's high-pitched, slightly pinched
… voice. There is no such cracker on Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, which, however, sounds a lot more consistent than previous Wombats albums. There are no real slips, while on songs like Lemon To A Knife Fight, Black Flamingo and Ice Cream jumping is fine again. Fortunately, however, they also slow down on time - with a special mention for the beautiful Turn - and clocked out on time. The Wombats just don't make it too complicated, with Murphy's always easy to understand lyrics and always a catchy hook somewhere. Also recommended for fans of ! (RME)more
