The tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter and folk artist Laura Veirs. She never really got big, she still plays in small clubs in the Netherlands. But this doesn't seem to bother her. Making melodic folk with an idiosyncratic slant (invariably produced by her husband Tucker Martine) seems more dear to her than mainstream success. Nor could this have been The Lookout's premeditated goal.
It is a varied album on which here and there is carefully played with electronics. But this doesn't get in the way of the acoustic guitar or the pedal steel guitar. Her clear and thin voice remains characteristic, also in her version of Mountain Of The Moon by . Her music emanates a pastoral peace, far away from the soul-devouring mainstream, and that remains Laura Veirs' great strength. (MR)more
