The first two albums by American singer Jillian Banks were full of whimsical and fragmented R&B songs. Not always easy on the ear, but very atmospheric and captivating. On her third record, the artist reduces her urge to experiment a bit further. She seems to have cooled down on III and even performs sultry R&B ballads. At Contaminated we hear her sing over a rolling melody with a vocoder.
But the autotune in Look What You're Doing is not even pleasant to listen to. Despite its more accessible approach, the fragmented is still present, although on this album it seems a bit more bitter in contrast to the softer sound. The songs were produced this time by BJ Burton, Aaron Forbes, and . Her restraint gives III a more compact sound, but also a somewhat sluggish atmosphere. (JvQ)more
