Holding On To A Dream is the second album by Swedish multi-instrumentalist Sir Was (real name: Joel Wästerberg). Wästerberg is a trained jazz saxophonist who used to play in José Gonzalez's band. 'All I wanna do is fly away', the Swede sings in the sultry opening song. He retains the dreamy undertone that he subtly applies this throughout the album. Sir Was's music is also difficult to categorize.
With a lo-fi approach and psychedelic underlay, Wästerberg mixes elements from soul, hip-hop, electronica and jazz. He thereby elaborates on the sound of his debut album (2017). It is remarkable that Wästerberg waited no less than ten years for the release of his debut because he was too insecure about his music. He now seems to have got a taste for it. His fellow Swedes from also participate on a song. (JvQ)more
