Womb

The third album by the Canadian band Purity Ring has the familiar recipe of dreamy synth pop with a dark edge. Especially in the lyrics macabre subjects such as cannibalism and death are discussed. You don't expect it immediately when you hear the almost childish voice of singer Megan James. The music itself is after debut(2012) are becoming increasingly polished. A song like I Like The Devil still… has a rough layer, but if you place WOMB in its entirety next to Another Eternity (2015), the sound hardly has changed. That predictability takes away a lot of tension, which was for example on the debut. The continuous stream of dangling synths, distorted vocals by James and echoing melodies create a tinge, which ripples pleasantly by without making a lasting impression. (JvQ)more
