The strength of the American rock artist Glenn Danzig has always been that he knew how to connect metal with the primal power and sensuality of great historical rock singers such as and . On paper it seems a good idea that Danzig dedicates an album to his great childhood idol Presley. The result may be called wonderful and even laughable. On Danzig Sings Elvis he does not interpret The King, but
… imitates him. Almost like a karaoke artist, he twists his voice to sound like Elvis as much as possible. Elvis classics like Always On My Mind and One Night didn't get any new arrangements either, but just follow the chords and sound as if they were recorded by Danzig himself in his basement, with guitar, bass and drums. For an artist of his caliber (with his own metal classics to his name) Danzig Sings Elvis is nothing more than a ludicrous and unintentionally humorous mistake. (MR)more
