'I was raised in that old time feeling,' sings SG Goodman in the title track of her debut album. That doesn't seem to lie with her country, southern soul and rock soaked music. Shania Goodman is from Kentucky and learned to sing in church. Her singing voice sounds special and makes this record so attractive: driven and powerful, with an almost obsessive vibrato, but sometimes also girlish and fragile.
With this she carries her songs that sound personal and convey a southern American romance. Co-producer Jim James added the raw and slightly psychedelic guitar sound that is also characteristic of his own band . Ballads dominate Old Time Feeling, but especially the solid rock of The Way I Talk and the aforementioned title track, in which Goodman completely loosens up, sticks well to this inspired debut.
