After the surprise release of
Tools Fear Inoculum (2019) frontman Maynard James Keenan had a good taste. A year later his project Puscifer is next. On Existential Reckoning you can hear the same inventiveness as with Tool, although in a different way. Although Puscifer's music can also colour dark, it's often echoing arthrock with influences from electronic music. It shifts back and forth between
… industrial and new wave. Just like on Money Shot (2015), conjuring vocal lines and contrary elements give the music a tart and unique sound. Keenan takes plenty of time to build up the songs, so that as a listener you may be caught by a sultry tension. (JvQ)more
