Cascade Street is the second album by French composer Yann Tiersen, released in 1996. It was not until then that he became truly famous for the soundtrack he created for the film
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001). On Cascade Street, Tiersen gives voice to his love for traditional instruments like the mandolin, harpsichord, violin, accordion and keyboard. This gives the music a somewhat
… baroque undertone, but it is recognisably playful in Tiersen's way. Compared to later work like All (2019), it's a lot more whimsical. He also uses less everyday 'instruments', such as a typewriter and kitchen utensils. This only enhances the playfulness. Three of the songs would eventually end up on the soundtrack to Amélie.
