'The comeback of the year' - that's how Muziekweb described
Shadow Of Fear, Cabaret Voltaire's first studio record in 26 years, in late 2020. Remarkably enough, the only remaining band member
Richard H. Kirk has already released a successor four months later. Even better: another one is scheduled for a month later. To clarify, this is a diptych filled with experimental ambient, of which this first
… part consists of one long piece of drone music. Cabaret Voltaire has never been one of the most optimistic bands', our reviewer wrote with a sense of understatement last year, and this applies in full to Dekadrone. The beats of Shadow Of Fear (and sister EP Shadow Of Funk) make way here for sinister voices in the background and indefinable bleeps and bloops. But there's always that threat, as if you're flying over a desolate landscape where something horrible has just happened. It is without a doubt clever that Kirk manages to captivate the unsuspecting listener for 50 minutes. (RME)more
