The third album by the duo Insides, consisting of J. Tardo and Kirsty Yates, was no less than 20 years in the making. Soft Bonds follows Sweet Tip (2000), which featured a sultry acid jazz sound. With this album they return to the experimental sounds of their early days. Music that hangs somewhere between dreampop and minimal electronics. Spooky dreampop that is, because Yates' mysterious voice
… gives the whole thing an ominous layer. Thematically, the pair hark back to the past that continues to haunt you in the present, or rather drags you along. The tempo remains very low throughout the album, which makes the music, especially in the longer tracks, drift away inconspicuously. (JvQ)more
