The Tedeschi Trucks Band was formed in 2010 by the married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, who both had already won their spurs in the blues world and could therefore be considered a true supergroup right from the start. That even artists with a star status have idols can be heard on Layla Revisited. As with so many, the album
Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970) by
Derek & The Dominos… has had a major influence on the musicians. Trucks even says he owes his first name to the band name and it just so happens that Tedeschi was born on the day Layla was released. But the real appreciation can be heard on the registration of the concert the Tedeschi Trucks Band gave in 2019 at the festival LOCKN' in the American state of Virginia. Assisted by special guest Trey Anastasio, the band played the now over 50-year-old record in its entirety. They do so with verve. Skilled, but also full of their own personality. The Indian accents in Truck's slide-guitar solos remain remarkable. Tedeschi's and Anastasio's vocals sound full of conviction. Highly recommended, even for those who have sworn by the original for five decades. (JV)more
