Producer and DJ Jimmy Tamborello aka Dntel became best known for the project
The Postal Service, in which he collaborated with Ben Biggard of
Death Cab for Cutie. Dntel makes experimental electronics on his own. Because Tamborello grew up with 80s techno pop, you can often hear those influences in his music. On Away he also uses acoustic instruments and he runs his voice through a vocoder. That
… distorted voice brings back memories of The Postal Service. The result on this album is a soft and dreamy sound in which the American plays with changes in tempo and connects loose fragments in a sparkling way. Away is not a club album, but rather a listening album in which glitchy electropop subtly unfolds. (JvQ)more
