American singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler divides her time between making music and painting. But her songs also look like static tableaux: darkly tinted and haunted by atmosphere. Her self-produced The Path Of The Clouds is Nadler's most stylistic, but also most morbid album. The dreamy folk of earlier albums gave way to a much darker and gothic sound, with lingering rhythms, droning keys and jagged

Tales of people who strangely disappeared and other murder-related stories then found their way into the songs of The Path Of The Clouds. Sung with her darkly sultry voice, that content only gains darkness and mystery. (MR)more
