On
Good Grief (2016), the indie band Lucius referenced all manner of female groups, with mixed results. After their acoustic cover album Nudes (2018), the band makes a new move and delves into the disco-lit clubrooms of the 1970s. With electro, funk, disco and a touch of soul, they go after the likes of
Jessie Ware and
Róisín Murphy, although the result remains a little less pronounced. To that
… end, the production shoots in all directions quite often and Second Nature is so overflowing with influences that it's sometimes hard to stay focused. From dance numbers boiling over with synths to country-like ballads; diversity reigns supreme, but tempo changes and bridges are thrown around all the time, which more than once send the listener off course.
