The sixth album from British band Everything Everything captures their signature sound with the same whimsy of their debut. On previous albums
A Fever Dream (2017) and
Re-Animator (2020), the bombast was somewhat curtailed, while this time around, the extremes are once again pushed a bit more often. Overpowered guitar riffs, melodic chords and the high-pitched vocals of frontman Jonathan Higgs
… intermingle lushly. However, the band now knows when to slow down; a dreamy song like Metroland Is Burning is a welcome moment of rest, where on their debut they kept on pushing too long with over-stimulating songs. That the band has really found their form by now is evident in the rich and playful Raw Data Feel, in which a fictional character experiences the consequences of Artificial Intelligence. Leave it to Everything Everything to frame an interesting concept with at least as interesting music, brimming with ingenious inventions. (JvQ)more
