Katy J Pearson's debut album
Return (2020) was full of beautiful folk rock songs. On this successor album, the British singer once again focuses entirely on beautiful, meticulously constructed songs, in which influences from country, folk and Americana alternate. Pearson further colors her songs with beautiful horn arrangements and guitar playing that is alternately captivating and compelling.
Pearson doesn't shy away from dark subjects in her lyrics and with her music she tries to show the listener both the pleasant and less pleasant aspects of life. That sometimes pessimistic edge gives Sound Of The Morning a bittersweet edge and appeals to your melancholy feelings. In the lighter moments, Pearson darts around delightfully with her guitar chords and so, on her second album, she manages to strike a perfect balance between melancholy and joyousness. (JvQ)more
