"Their seemingly careless or cool attitude does not linger for an album," wrote Muziekweb in April 2020 about the
debut of North London indie rock band Sorry. Even on this follow-up, the youthful quintet's mix of art rock and post-punk is once again drenched in irony and self-deprecation. That attitude has the disadvantage that the feeling of "we all don't care" can spill over to the listener.
Especially when songs continue to sound like loose sand even after multiple spins, such as Tell Me, I Miss The Fool or Hem Of The Fray. On the other hand, when it all - coincidentally or not - falls exactly into place, Anywhere But Here is a joy. Like in Quit While You're Ahead (a subdued duet by childhood friends cum bandleaders Asha Lorenz and Louis O'Bryen), the beautiful (and virtually irony-free) There's So Many People That Want To Be Loved and especially the rock-solid opening track Let The Lights On, which in terms of melody and Lorenz's vocals is reminiscent of the unsurpassed Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
