Ten years after the last record by one of the most important British new wave bands of the 1980s, Echo &the Bunnymen comes out with Evergreen and nothing has changed. What has remained are the charmingly false vocals, the simple but beautiful songs and the regularly bombastic arrangements. Besides drummer Pete de Freitas, who died in 1989 and his place is taken over by Michael Lee, we again hear
… guitarist Will Sergeant, bassist Les Pattinson and, of course, vocalist Ian McCulloch. They themselves think they have as much right to exist as, say, Oasis and Radiohead and they are right. Evergreen is just a good record. Listen especially to the single Nothing Lasts Forever. (WvdZ - 1997)This remastered edition celebrates the 25th anniversary of the 1997 album, with an extra CD full of live recordings, studio outtakes and b-sides of singles.more
