Tight, nothing-concealing spandex pants, blonded poodle hair and whorish makeup. That just leaves the men from the 1980s metal scene in Los Angeles. A rowdy club of contemporaries who still professed plenty of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, both on and off the stage. Their music sounded like primary heavy metal with glam rock influences, following in the footsteps of such successful bands as
Poison,
… W.A.S.P. and Mötley Crüe and was also called hair metal. The story of these bands is already told in an often hilarious way in the documentary The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years, streamed on You Tube. The compilation album Bound For Hell On The Sunset Strip mainly charts the lesser gods who played in the clubs on and near Sunset Strip, hoping for the success that never came. A fascinating collection of strong, not so strong and sometimes downright ramshackle hair metal from years gone by. As long as your spandex pants and hair were right. (MR)more
