The opening track of Strange Dance, the third album by
Radiohead drummer
Philip Selway, with its melancholy piano sounds and strings would not have been out of place on
Amnesiac (2001). It is also somewhat reminiscent of certain Radiohead songs in terms of structure, although Selway goes almost orchestral at times on this album. Although
Thom Yorke captures most of the attention with his solo
… projects, the solo albums of his fellow band members are often just as interesting. Selway wrote the album entirely at home on piano and guitar and later invited artists such as Hannah Peel, Laura Moody and Adrian Utley to play with him. The result is a collection of songs that unfold kaleidoscopically, with Selway's whispery voice adding a gentle charge to the whole. If you're in the mood for meticulously arranged songs with melancholic undertones, Strange Dance is the album of choice. (YvQ)more
