In 2009, Adam Lambert finishes second in the eighth season of American Idol. He manages to carve out a successful career and later meets
Queen members
Brian May and
Roger Taylor during an episode of the talent show. Lambert gets to join the band on a world tour, which allows him to showcase his eccentric personality to an even larger audience. Not entirely surprising that he chose a title such as
… High Drama for this cover album, on which he presents reworkings of well-known songs in his own way. The main emphasis here is on his extravagant way of singing. Songs by Sia, Kings of Leon and Bonnie Tyler, among others, are given a pop and rock twist, and Lambert alternates ballads with uptempo songs. He doesn't really surprise, but High Drama offers a nice collection of covers on which Lambert clearly leaves his mark. (JvQ)more
