American Lana del Rey keeps throwing out albums at a rapid pace. Her melancholy music is apparently in demand, because even on this - again - bulky album you are immersed in melancholy arrangements. It is certain moments in which Del Rey does manage to stand out again from previous records. Like with the seven-minute A&W (which stands for American Whore), which manages to excite with a drastic
… transition after the soaring beginning piece. Thematically, things have also changed. Whereas the singer used to sometimes lapse into overdramatic lyrics about violence and self-destruction, on this album she mainly looks at loneliness. The sensuality that she puts in her music is so captivating that you immediately forget the monstrous length of the track. There are some gems of note on this record, such as the beautiful duet with Father John Misty. Lana del Rey remains one of the most interesting voices of her generation. (YvQ)more
