In 2014, Walloon singer Loïc Nottet placed second in The Voice Belgique. A year later, he was allowed to compete for Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest, where he placed fourth with the song Rhythm Inside. Nottet's sources of inspiration are diverse, namely
Imagine Dragons,
Lana del Rey,
Siah and
Dua Lipa. So what you can expect is a combination of modesty, wistful passages and compelling moments.
You can hear that immediately in the somewhat chaotic opening and title track of his third album, which shoots from subdued to explosive in a split second. With a mix of pop music and electronica, Nottet struggles through the struggles that the world and himself have to deal with. The singer's sensitivity is interspersed with a form of aggression, but it doesn't quite go hand in hand. For that, Nottet's music shoots in all directions too much. Although the album has a number of catchy moments, it lacks focus to fully convince. (YvQ)more
