Laurent Garnier is of course best known for the immortal techno hit The Man With A Red Face, on which he showcased his skill for building tension with verve. 33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont is his first solo album since 2015 and opens with the 10-plus minute Tales From The Real World. It features a monologue by philosopher Alan Watts and you immediately hear back how strongly Garnier's music revolves
… around tension and release. Most of the songs tick over ten minutes and revolve around roaring synths that grow louder and louder. The Frenchman manages to find a nice balance between atmospheric creation and unadulterated bangers. Guest artists such as 22Carbone and Scan X add to the fire. After an hour and a half of roaring and grinding, you're probably a bit numb, but Garnier shows that he still has what it takes as a techno DJ. (YvQ)more
