Although Snow Patrol's debut album
Songs For Polarbears was released as early as 1998, and their second album
When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up (2001) received much acclaim in Britain, it took a long time for the group to come to the attention of continental Europe. Northern Irish/Scottish Snow Patrol was formed in 1994 by Gary Lightbody (vocals/guitar) and Mark McClelland (bass) who met
… during their college years. Drummer Jonny Quin later completed the band. How much Snow Patrol is part of the Scottish (Glasgow) indie scene was evidenced by guest contributions from Belle & Sebastian members on the first two CDs, and from the "supergroup" The Reindeer Section, founded by Lightfoot, featuring members of just about every Scottish alternative band. But Snow Patrol also convinces on their own, as Final Straw proves. Supplemented by guitarist Nathan Connolly, the band manages to find a good balance between solid rock and typical British pop, with standouts such as How To Be Dead, Spitting Games, Run and Chocolate. (IV - 2004)This anniversary edition includes an additional CD of demos and live recordings from the same period.
