She was chosen out of many candidates in 2010 as the new singer of
Hooverphonic. The young singer NoƩmie Wolfs did so with verve, and with her name established in Belgium, she opted for a solo career five years later. Wild At Heart is her third album and its theme is the capriciousness of love or how two people cannot live without and with each other. She translates this (with her partner Simon
… Casier) into sultry electro songs, complemented by lustrous strings. Her shrouded bedroom vocals also evoke sensuality and eroticism in songs that sound simultaneously thoughtful and confident. In her lyrics, she lingers a little too much in the home, garden and kitchen erotica, with, for example, an obligatory stanza like 'Fire's burning, I can feel it. It takes control of my emotions'. While a stanza like 'You were never here. How did you disappear?' rhymes nicely but is sheer nonsense. Thus, the never-ending sighing and yearning slowly begins to turn against the singer throughout Wild At Heart. (MR)more
