Sunrise

Flemish trio The Golden Glows consists of the unorthodox lineup of three voices (two women and one man) and one acoustic guitar. The group once started with American material from the 1920s. Music that is experiencing a major revival with many traditional American styles such as bluegrass often gives plenty of room for harmonic harmony singing. The Golden Glows seem to have taken this music as a… starting point, but are by no means held back by it. They apply their warm harmonies to music that is reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Simon & Garfunkel, but the so-called old-time music they started with can also be heard in the largely self-written repertoire. Sunrise is now their seventh album (the first for Dutch label Exclesior Recordings) and those years of experience are paying off. Every note and every inflection of the voices go together perfectly. The same can be said about the guitar playing of Bram Van Moorhem, the only male member. Van Moorhem and singers Nel Ponsaers and Katleen Scheir are guaranteed to give goosebumps. (JV)more
