Was debut album
Everything (2021) largely dominated by mourning - Jessica Viscius' partner Trey Gruber died in 2017 at the age of 26 after a year-long battle with addictions - on this follow-up, Bnny's frontwoman closes in on life and love again. The title of this benevolently short album and several songs speak volumes in that regard. That does not mean, by the way, that the indie band from Chicago
… - with Jessica's twin sister Alexa on bass - suddenly plays sunny pop songs on One Million Love Songs. The tempo is still predominantly slow, so Bnny's music is still sometimes classified as slowcore. That lack of dynamics is a downside, which is offset, however, by the beauty of songs like Something Blue, Good Stuff (the single) and the moody closing track. "No one loves me," Viscius sings in it. Yay Jessica! And fans of, say, Cat Power or Sharon van Etten should love this too. (RME)more
