This is the second solo CD by Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and the follow-up to his 1991 album Stranger In This Town. On Undiscovered Soul he is accompanied by renowned musicians such as Pino Paladino (bass), Billy Preston (Hammond organ / backing vocals) , Chuck Leavell and Greg Phillinganes (keys). The record was produced by Don Was, known for his work for the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan,
… and mixed by Bob Clearmountain. It is therefore no surprise that the CD sounds good and is professionally put together. Neither is Sambora's music. It shows similarities with that of other American rockers such as Bruce Springsteen and John Cougar Mellencamp. The patriotic opener Made In America is Sambora's sequel to Springsteen's Born In The USA. He is doing best in other uptempo songs like Hard Times Come Easy, You're Not Alone, Chained and Who I Am. On the other hand, he should leave the writing of ballads to colleague Jon Bon Jovi. (WvdZ)more
