N'dea Davenport was the singer of the jazz dance group Brand New Heavies in the first half of the 1990s. She also worked with Nathalie Merchant and Guru's Jazzmatazz. She produced most of her debut CD herself and wrote most of the songs with the help of a number of others. Davenport is at her best in the brooding, R&B leaning songs When The Night Falls, Bullshittin 'and Oh Mother Earth (Embrace)
… and the jazzy ballad Save Your Love For Me. She is somewhat disappointing in a number of dated sounding jazz dance songs and unimpressive ballads. Her brilliant version of Neil Young's Old Man, however, amply makes the weaknesses on this changeable album forget. (WvdZ)more
