In 1997 the new wave band Echo & The Bunnymen surprised after an absence of about ten years with "Evergreen". The follow-up to that album is called "What are you going to do with your life" and is of the same quality. However, there are some differences to be discovered. The band now consists only of frontman Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant. Bassist Les Pattinson only participates on
… one song. The atmosphere and the songs are much calmer and more intimate than before; the signature Bunnymen bombast has largely disappeared. Acoustic guitars and piano are the main instruments in, for example, the title song, "Rust" and "History chimes". The violins and horns in "Get in the car", "When it all blows over" and "Fools like us" give the album an unexpected Burt Bacharach atmosphere. (W.vd.Z.) _more
