Faudel is called 'le Petit Prince du Raï'. Barely twenty years old during the making of this debut album and he is already mentioned in the same breath as famous Raï singers like Khaled and Cheb Mami. Of Algerian descent, but born and raised in France, Faudel went to Algeria with his parents every summer for vacation and family visits. His grandmother, a traditional Raï singer, has made Faudel
… enthusiastic about the music. As Faudel considers himself French of Algerian descent, he sings in both Arabic and French. Musically he also mixes different musical traditions: with a very flexible light-colored voice, he sings a modern form of raï that is mixed with funk, reggae, rap, flamenco, salsa and jungle rhythms. The result is swinging and lively music where sparks fly. A promising debut album! (SvdP)more
