It is no exaggeration to say that The Sugarcubes is the most important Icelandic pop group ever. The reasons are simple: for The Sugarcubes there was nothing (or at least very little) and the singer of The Sugarcubes would later become the most famous Icelander of all time, namely Björk. The Sugarcubes, a relaunch of the band KUKL that quit after two albums, was part of a scene of anarchists and
… artists whose main goal was to provoke the rest of the Icelandic population. Björk saw the group mainly as a 'joke band', which made absurd songs and did not take the music that seriously. The international success of the debut album Life's Too Good (1988) and the single Birthday, a major cult hit in Great Britain and the United States, amazed the band. In the end it was this success, along with internal struggles, that marked the end for The Sugarcubes: they called it quits in 1992 after their third album Stick Around For Joy. On this DVD (already released on video in 1990) you can see recordings of performances from the period 1988-1989 in England, America and Iceland, with short interviews with the band members in between, showing once again that The Sugarcubes was not an everyday band. Live Zabor is above all a nice time document. (IV) which again shows that The Sugarcubes was not an everyday band. Live Zabor is above all a nice time document.
