The London singer Siouxsie Sioux was a major influence on the contemporary gothic, both musically and externally. Her band Siouxsie And The Banshees operated between 1977 and 1996 and sold dark wave with influences from glam rock. That she was labeled in the media as an 'ice queen' is debunked on this DVD; a recording of two concerts in London in 1983 (which was also released on album that same
… year). Accompanied by guitarist Robert Smith, who is borrowed from The Cure, the singer burns up the fire while sweating, with fierce and intense performances of well-known Banshees songs such as Night Shift, Sin In My Heart and Voodoo Dolly. The boiling point is eventually reached with the Beatles cover Helter Skelter. The bonus material in which the entire group performs (and tries to act) in a surreal TV show intended for older children is touching. Nocturne is more than a dated document and shows how daring, how special and how good the group was in its heyday. (MR)more
