After the chaotic breakup of the influential British punk band The Libertines, the difficult task for singer / guitarist Carl BarĂ¢t was to show his worth without a Libertines partner and fallen best friend Pete Doherty. Fortunately, that worked out well with his new band Dirty Pretty Things (in which the rhythm section of The Libertines can also be found) and the album Waterloo To Anywhere. The
… pleasantly messy punk rock of this album comes into its own even better on stage as can be seen and heard on this DVD that was released shortly after Waterloo ... The group presents rock 'n' roll in all its glory that is uncompromising and unpretentious: with a lot of mobility, toughness, bare bones, sweat, out of tune guitars and stage dives. The hectic pace of the performance is beautifully visualized with slightly shocking and grainy images and with intermediate shots filmed by telephones from the audience. Very well thought-out and stylistic actually, right down to the quasi-rough 'boys together with drinks and cigarettes' backstage images, but this does result in a very fast and energetic DVD. (MR)more
