Re-release on DVD of the legendary concert film Soul To Soul, which was not available for a long time due to copyright conflicts. The film follows a number of famous artists - including Ike & Tina Turner, The Staple Singers, Wilson Pickett and Santana - who travel to Ghana in 1971 for the Soul To Soul festival, organized in collaboration with the Ghanaian authorities. Interviewed on the plane,
… the African American artists say that they experience the journey as the realization of a long-cherished dream: the return to the motherland. The chaotic reception at the airport is heart-warming, even more impressive is the concert where the link between African music and American blues, soul and jazz becomes indisputably clear. The aforementioned artists are all at the peak of their abilities and, like their African brothers and sisters, are clearly inspired by the special ambiance. An excellent music film, but above all a fascinating cultural-historical document. (MS)more
