Clip collector of the British pop band The Beautiful South, which originated from The Housemartins. In their own country all songs belong to the collective consciousness, in the Netherlands only Song For Whoever (1989) and A Little Time (1990) still ring a bell. The latter in particular is a timelessly beautiful (and wry) song, of which the accompanying clip, in which two lovers sing to each other
… in a destroyed house, is just as successful. For the rest, the intimate songs all lean on the typical British sense of understatement, where the arrangements are always taken care of, sometimes on the good side. The enclosed live performances (among others with Jools Holland) show that the group also managed to live up to the slick sound on stage. (MS)more
