In 1986 Talk Talk was at the height of its success. Innovative and catchy singles like Dum Dum Girl, Life's What You Make It, It's My Life and Such A Shame made the band a rare case where artistry and commerce went hand in hand. The group still had to make the most influential work then. In a change of direction that radically broke with the previous hit sound, Talk Talk made the widely drawn-out,
… mostly instrumental albums Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock, and thus formed the basis of post rock. Little of that is noticeable on this DVD (the first to be released by Talk Talk), when the group concentrates on the early hit albums during a concert at the 1986 Montreux Festival. Singer Mark Hollis is the visual centerpiece, with his typical haunted facial expressions. For the rest, Talk Talk consists of passionate but somewhat charismal musicians. Some pieces are expanded considerably and at those moments we hear the first cautious building blocks of their new sound, with which they would strongly influence the alternative rock scene of the nineties.
