In contrast to other rock heroes who died early, the heirs of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana handle posthumous releases and permission to do so tightly and carefully. Albums and DVDs like From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah (1996) and Live at Reading (2009) bring out the influential and chaotic grunge trio at its best. The video clips of the singles were brought together at the In Bloom Collection,
… supplemented with some obscure live videos, often copied from MTV (with the logo still on screen). The latter seems necessary to (just) get an hour of material. It also takes three versions of In Bloom and the (pretty funny) Smells Like Teen Spirit parody of Weird Al Yankovic. Fans may be happy with it, but they will also have to agree that the DVD looks unnecessarily skimpy. For example, names and information about the makers of the clips (such as Anton Corbijn) and other trivia are missing. There is also no question of bonus material. Nothing wrong with the tried and tested music and images, but a very sparse release from the European label Immortal and perhaps overlooked by Nirvana's heirs. (MR)more
