With the sixth album Ghost Stories, Coldplay shows in early 2014 that the band can experiment with dance influences and still sound familiar. The record is not one of the most successful in the British group's oeuvre, but it does give a lot of energy to the quartet. The DVD of the same name, released a few months later, is also surprising. Live, Coldplay relies mainly on the fame of their song
… material. Well-known tricks such as blasting fireworks or acrobatic dancers are not to be found with Chris Martin and his friends. So a Coldplay concert registration hardly appeals to the imagination. Still, Ghost Stories is more resourceful than you might think at first glance. Live images from the Royal Albert Hall flow seamlessly into video clips. The tone remains the same so sometimes you have to blink your eyes to notice it. Beautiful images and yet some smart tricks (a laser harp for example) are used to break through the live setting. Coldplay continues to expand the concept film genre with this entertaining DVD.
