The group Celtic Woman is inspired by and based on the successful shows of Riverdance: ear- and eye-delighting soloists are flanked by a large orchestra and typical Celtic instruments such as bagpipes, bodhran and fiddles. The beautiful Irish singers Lisa, Chloë, Orla and Méav and violinist Máiréad Nesbitt perform well-known classics from the Celtic folk repertoire and highlights from musical
… and light classical music. On the album and concert of the same name A New Journey, New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra joined Celtic Woman. The singers sing both solos and polyphonic songs: their angelic pure voices sound beautifully together in David Downes' arrangements. The DVD contains the concert at Slane Castle, Ireland, a visually beautifully decorated show in which we see violinist Nesbitt hopping and dancing while playing and Orla turns out to be able to play the harp. Celtic Woman is highly recommended for fans of Riverdance, Sarah Brightman and Il Divo. (SvdP)more
