Curious name, but beautiful music. The Scottish-Irish folk group The Poozies has already undergone several metamorphoses. The band now consists of Patsy Seddon (harp), Mary MacMaster (harp), Karen Tweed (accordion) and Eilidh Shaw (fiddle). These ladies exchange melodies with (amateur) musicians all over the world, from which they then create their own interesting arrangements. The harps give the
… music of The Poozies elegance and beauty, the accordion and fiddle are the driving force for the up-tempo pieces. In addition, harmony singing is an important characteristic of the group, which forms a pleasant change from the instrumental parts. The album Changed Days, Same Roots includes a transformation of Wouldn't It Be Lovely. In the musical My Fair Lady the song has an air of cheerfulness, but in this slow performance nothing but a dreamy (and desperate) longing for warmth and safety. Also impressive is the contemporary song Throw The Ball by Colum Sands about life with violence in Belfast. So sad here and there, but also a lot of wonderfully exciting music. (CP)more
